Flashscore has marked a milestone year, surpassing 100 million live audio plays in the first eleven months of 2025—its biggest year yet for commentary consumption.
The world’s most-used live scores app has seen audio engagement more than double compared with 2024, as fans increasingly turn to Flashscore’s free, real-time match commentary. The platform credits part of this surge to recent upgrades that make live audio easier to find and use, including a streamlined, registration-free experience, an improved audio player, and a newly prominent commentary icon.
Backed by a team of more than 180 professional commentators, Flashscore now offers authentic, localised audio coverage in 12 languages. Since launching live audio in 2020, the service has delivered more than 64,000 commentaries and amassed over 284 million total plays.
Champions League Dominates Listening Figures
Unsurprisingly, Europe’s elite competition sits at the top of the platform’s most-followed tournaments in 2025. The UEFA Champions League generated 18.6 million plays, ahead of the English Premier League (17.3 million), La Liga (12.4 million), Brazil’s Serie A (8.8 million) and the FIFA Club World Cup (6.8 million).
The standout fixture of the year—and the platform’s all-time No. 1—was the Champions League semifinal second leg between Inter Milan and Barcelona, attracting a record 1.1 million audio plays. El Clásico followed with more than 874,000 plays, trailed by the Madrid derby (652,756), the Nations League meeting between Portugal and Spain (649,074), and Real Madrid vs. Arsenal in this season’s Champions League (648,412).
Rising Demand for Multi-Format Sports Coverage
Alan Záruba, Flashscore’s Chief Digital Content Officer, says the numbers reflect a broader shift in how fans connect with live sport.
“This milestone shows that audio is becoming one of the main ways fans stay close to the action,” he explains. “We’re seeing strong global demand for fast, clear and local commentary—delivered by voices supporters trust.”
Flashscore has invested heavily in enhancing its audio offering. The platform is expanding its in-stadium coverage, with commentators already reporting live from matches in Brazil’s Serie A, Portugal’s Liga Portugal and France’s Ligue 1. More markets are planned for 2026.
Záruba also highlights how advanced AI is helping elevate the listening experience:
“In 2026, we’ll push even further by combining AI with human editorial judgement to ensure quality and deliver richer halftime content, including original interviews. This approach is already live in Portugal, Spain and Brazil, and the early results show faster turnaround times, greater accuracy and a deeper experience for fans.”
With 100 million live audio plays already in the books for 2025, Flashscore enters the new year aiming to build on its momentum—and reaffirm its position as a leader in real-time sports coverage.
