The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has capped off its 140th anniversary year with record achievements both on and off the track.
From world-class equine performances to historic levels of community support, FY2024/25 reflected the Club’s growing global profile and unwavering social mission.
On the racing front, fans were treated to a remarkable season led by Horse of the Year Ka Ying Rising, who equalled the record of eight wins in a single season, and Romantic Warrior, now the world’s highest-earning racehorse. Voyage Bubble’s Triple Crown triumph sealed a year of unforgettable sporting moments that drew record crowds and international tourists.
Financially, the Club reported a 5% increase in total wagering and lottery turnover to HK$320.3 billion, generating HK$49.3 billion in revenue and an impressive EBITDA margin of 72%. This enabled the Club to contribute HK$28.8 billion in betting duty and profits tax, alongside HK$9.0 billion in charitable donations – bringing the total community impact to HK$39.1 billion.
Globalisation also continued apace, with commingled turnover rising 10.1% to HK$31.8 billion, making up more than a quarter of racing wagering turnover. Meanwhile, football betting turnover reached a record HK$172.8 billion, strengthened by new leagues and in-play markets.
Looking ahead, the Club is preparing to launch regular racing at Conghua Racecourse in October 2026, marking a new era of cross-border equine sport and entertainment in the Greater Bay Area.
Michael Lee, Club Chairman, reflected:
“This year the Club celebrated its 140th anniversary with a truly world-class performance that reaffirmed, in every way, our commitment to the betterment of society. With the launch of racing at Conghua in October 2026, we look forward to a new era of world-class sport and entertainment.”
CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges added:
“Given the challenging economy, and significant competition from illegal gambling operators, our results this year were nothing short of outstanding. Our aspiration is to become a global racing, sports and entertainment brand, reaching out to even more fans across the world.”
